What a Retreat is and What it is not...

When people hear the word retreat, it can bring up all sorts of images.

For some, it feels a little intimidating. For others, it might sound overly structured, or even a bit… not for them. Sometimes it’s associated with something religious or deeply spiritual in a way that feels unfamiliar.

And while a retreat can be those things, it doesn’t have to be. If we visit the dictionary, it describes that retreat is a withdrawal or a step back from. That makes more sense now, doesn't it?


At its simplest, a retreat is something much more human. It’s space. Space to step away from the pace and pressure of everyday life. Space to slow down, to breathe, and to hear yourself think again without the constant pull of responsibilities, expectations, and to-do lists. Because for many women, life is full.


Full of caring for others. Full of showing up, giving, organising, and supporting. And somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose touch with your own needs. A retreat is a chance to come back to yourself gently. Not in a forced or overwhelming way. Not with pressure to share, or to be anything other than you are. But in a way that feels safe, supportive, and real.


There’s no “right way” to do a retreat. You don’t need to be spiritual. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You simply arrive as you are. And from there, something begins to shift.


It might be in the quiet moments, the ones where you realise how long it’s been since you truly switched off. It might be in the conversations with other women, where there’s an unspoken understanding. Or it might be in the simplicity of good food, fresh air, and a slower pace of living. It’s not about doing more. If anything, it’s about doing less.


Less rushing. 

Less pressure. 

Less noise.


And in that space, your nervous system begins to settle. Your body starts to soften. Your mind becomes clearer. You remember what it feels like to just be.
